Working to homebrew a spell. Basically I want it to do 1d4 for level 1 spell slot, 1d6 for 2nd level spell slot....etc is this possible, or do i have to make a separate spell at each level? I have swapped it from spell level to spell scale. I have added modifiers, added no modifiers. It just seems to add the level one damage no matter what level the spell is, or what spell slots I have. I am pretty lost and not sure if this is even possible. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
For this to function as intended, you'll have to define every level's increase, so you'll be using the Spell Level scaling type. For the 1st-level spell, you'll add the modifier as normal to deal 1d4 of the damage type, and then for every level that there is an increase, you'll have to add a higher level. With the example given being 1d6 damage when cast with a 2nd-level slot, you'd fill it out like so:
Scaling Level Value: 2
Modifier to Scale: Damage - [Damage Type] (1d4)
Scale Effect: Additional Points
Dice Count: 1
Die Type: d6
If you did the above but it wasn't showing up properly, it's possible that you may have set it up correctly but not given it enough time to update. Even after clicking 'Save' from the main section of the spell homebrew, it can take 15-20 minutes for changes after the initial creation of homebrew to appear.
I tried what you suggested and still no change. I have waited close to 3 hours. the affect I am seeing on my test character is no mater what level the spell is, the damage is always 1d4.
Please see attached, tell me what I may be doing wrong.
Based on the screenshots you've posted (I don't currently have the ability to view non-published homebrew content), it's the various modifiers you've set up that appear to be causing the problem. You only need one damage modifier, set up like so:
Modifier Type: Damage
Modifier Subtype: [The spell's damage type]
Dice Count: 1
Die Type: d4
... Then, for higher level scaling, you'll only need to keep the levels 2-5, as the base damage at level 1 is already defined by the above modifier!
I did what you suggested. One question. When you said "Then, for higher level scaling, you'll only need to keep the levels 2-5, as the base damage at level 1 is already defined by the above modifier!" does that mean when defining "At higher levels" I would also have to set the modifier for levels 2-5 to that base damage modifier of 1d4?
One thing I guess I never asked. Is this possible to work with digital dice? I did what you suggested and it still does not work. I looked online and users are saying it’s not set up to do digital dice and I will have to make a custom action?
Sounds like it may have been a caching issue, just the original spell not updating after you modified it. It's also important after changing homebrew modifiers, etc. to always press the Save button from the main section of the homebrew creation.

Can you provide a link to your spell? It doesn't need to be public for a mod such as myself to view it.
Sure thing!

Thank you!
Just checking in. Did you happen to see what I was doing wrong? Link above Thanks again.

No, you'll actually keep exactly what you have there! Just remove the one for level 1, since you've already defined the base damage at spell level 1.

Looks like it finally started working.. literally did not do anything different. Thanks all!
For context. I had to create a whole new spell. used the same spell to create it from. Then it magically worked. So, I dont know lol.
