Background: I'm looking to build a feat to represent the Death Curse in Tomb of Annihilation. Given that there's no curse option to add to a character's sheet I thought a feat would be the best way to represent this as I can add it to each character who has been raised before the curse starts (in my case all of them). I originally cloned the _tough_ feat and gave it a negative modifier instead of a positive one and it worked like a charm but when I changed the modifier subtype from Hit Points per Level to Hit Points it stopped working at all.
Specific Settings: New Modifier -> Modifier Type: Bonus -> Modifier Subtype: Hit Points -> Fixed Value: -2 for exampled but also tested with positive numbers.
Expected Behavior: The max hit points of characters this feat is added to should be adjusted by the fixed value listed in the feat's modifier setting.
Actual Behavior: The character sheet with this feat doesn't appear to have any effect, to its max hit points or otherwise.
It's possible I'm doing something wrong for the desired effect but as I've seen some older issues that complain about this as well none of which have a note stating they've been resolved I'm assuming this is not the case. If I am doing something wrong can I please get some directions for how to gain the desired effect.
Assuming this is indeed a bug and not user error is there a way to track any progress or get an idea of an expected timeline for a fix? I'm fairly sure DnD beyond doesn't have a git repo but is there another way to volunteer to provide a Pull Request for the bugfix if I have the ability to do it myself?
Hello! The modifiers section does not reactively change depending on what type of homebrew you're creating, however some modifiers are built to work in conjunction with other types of homebrew. You have not missed anything here-- however the modifier you're describing is not intended to function with feats at this time.
I have gone ahead and marked this thread as request. Thank you! :)
Can you tell me what, if not feats, the modifier is designed to work with? So long as I can give it to each character in my campaign, thereby reducing each of their hit point totals by the same amount, I'll be able to achieve my desired result. I know I could go in and do this manually for each character but that greatly increases the chance of error and I could have the players do it themselves but as it's a drop in drop out style game at my LGS I'll have to walk new players through the process every week and again increases the chances of an error.
@mellieDM you mentioned that this particular bonus wasn't available for feats, playing around some more it doesn't appear to be available for magic items either; I'd really like to understand where it can be used.
