Hi! First post on the forum. Of course it's a bug/problem... so if I break any guidelines please inform me and I'll do what is needed.
So I recently started a new campaign with a new group of players and they all recently achieved level 2. But when levelling their characters and selecting what 'subclass' they play, all they get access to is that of the basics if not even less (Druid is only able to select different types of land, blood hunter is only able to select archery, dueling, great weapon master and two weapon fighting for example).
This also happens to me. In fact, oddly enough, when trying to update one of my NPCs who's a wizard I'm only able to select school of evocation and a downloaded homebrew school. None of the other 7 appears! I thought a wizard should be able to select from any of the 8 standard schools even in the base game, right???
It should be noted that any of the content the players should be allowed to access comes shared from a friend of mine who owns more of the sourcebooks and stuff than me. So I'm not the one sharing content (my subscription tier isn't high enough cause I'm a bit poor atm), but he is.
Here's what I've tried:
- I've gone through all the options on the FAQ with no change.
- I've tried to have one of my players join a different campaign of my friend's. This allowed them to access the unique content in that campaign, but it changed nothing for my campaign and it didn't seem to affect the data-sync thing on the account marketplace, same goes for me. When I joined one of my friends campaigns aswell and claimed an unassigned character, it suddenly said on my account that my data was out of sync so I synced it, but nothing changed.
- My friend has tried disabling and enabling content sharing of course. Nothing.
Any ideas?? Should I submit a support ticket to DnDBeyond? Or is there something I'm missing here?
I know I could try deleting my current campaign and re-making it but I doubt that'll help since it's not me who owns the content being shared, but my friend, and this wasn't an issue previously (I think. I want to remember being able to access my friend's content when creating the characters at first but they're all level 1 so I may just not have noticed). Also it would be an absolute hassle. But I will do it if no one can come up with a better solution.
It sounds like content sharing isn't turned on for the campaign (one subclass per class is standard for the Basic Rules/SRD, even the wizard class). The friend turned off and on content sharing specifically on this campaign, yes? And did they check that their entitlements were in sync?
You can, as a temporary workaround, have your players move their characters to that other campaign where content sharing is working, then move them back to yours after making changes, as the changes will stick until they need to level up again (with the possible exception of prepared-spell casters) but it's a bit of a janky workaround.
To start with, the Basic Rules only include the Evocation tradition, so no, you can't select every school in the base game. Druids do only get access to Circle of Land. A subscription does not unlock any additional content by default.
To double check the basics:
At least one person (DM or player) in the campaign actually owns the content you are trying to access/share
You see "Content sharing has been enabled by XYZ" in the upper left of the campaign page
You are editing a character that is part of that campaign
Which FAQ did you look at? The pricing FAQ doesn't really deal with trouble shooting stuff as much. I have linked an Accessing Content FAQ in my signature.
As others above me has said, it sounds like either content sharing is not enabled for the campaign or the person who is sharing the content doesn't own any extra content.
It's important to note that content is shared with a campaign not you as a player. So if you have content shared with you you can not share that content with others in a different campaign. The only way for someone to get access to the content within the character builder, including someone with a character in the campaign, is to be making the character in that campaign.
