There's a bug one of my players witness while experimenting with adding a new class. When removing a class when hit point type is set to manual, it by default removes the fixed HP value from the character.
Steps to recreate issue: 1. Create character 2. Set hit point type to manual 3. Under abilities, choose manual and set all stats to 16 4. Add fighter class of 5th level 5. Manage HP, set "Rolled HP" to 40, HP will set to 55 6. Add Bard Class at level one, total HP will set to 58, only accounting for constitution 7. Remove bard class, total HP sets to 50 8. Under manage HP, "Rolled HP" is now 35.
For now he's adjusted to using the Override HP option until this can be fixed.
Clearly the manual HP options are not fool proof. Most characters' level only go in one direction. When going down it reduces rolled HP by the average roll (it assumes you already added the roll during level up and have no way to remember what it is).
I seem to recall max HP override had a habit of turning off either during long rests or changing levels. If either one of these us true, you are better off using the manual HP.
Yeah well... If you are tracking how much HP was added by every level, you would have to adjust manual HP anyway.
If you aren't tracking every Hit dice roll, it has that covered.
It really only messes up if a level is added and immediately removed like for a test character (which should be separate from the one you use in campaigns in my opinion). And now that you know about it, you can make appropriate adjustments in those cases.
It is helpful 90% of the time, harmless 9% of the time, and only a problem 1% if the time. With that in mind, I doubt the feature will be removed, but if you can think of a change that either increases helpfulness or decreases harmfulness, definitely share that in feedback. The best I've heard is for it to have a roll slot for each level of a class, that way when you level down would only remove the latest value for that class.
At the very least, it should be pointed out that this is a feature, not a bug.
You're clearly not understanding the issue and honestly I'd prefer you not muddy up this thread. If the character's HP type is set to fixed, then yes it should work as it currently does. It's a simple fix to be added to the code to check what the HP type is while removing a level.

The issue is that you are using manual HP, reduced your character's level and rolled HP was automatically reduced by the average roll of the removed class level.
The code knows you are using manual HP. It is a feature not a bug. But I will stop mentioning it.
The code works the same whether you're in fixed or manual HP. This isn't a feature, it's an oversight. When I add a level does it add the fixed HP amount to rolled HP? It doesn't. It shouldn't remove it by an arbitrary number, when I remove the level. It's pretty straightforward, I'm not even sure why you're arguing it's a feature. I can't think of a single reason anyone would appreciate the change if they're using manual hp.
Hello! Thank you for the report. I am able to recreate the issue of hit points being automatically removed from the "rolled HP" when a class is removed from a character. I'll raise a ticket for this.
I noticed that if I start a level 1 character with manual HP (for example, monk with a d8 hit dice) the rolled HP for level 1 is showing 12 instead of 8. Tried this and its the same with other classes as well.

That's a separate issue and deserves it's own thread.

You don't happen to have 18 Constitution or something do you?

That wouldn't affect the Rolled HP box.
It's a problem with the builder. If you make a character - choose Manual for HP - then choose a race then class - it will have 12 in the Rolled HP box no matter what.

This would be exactly why I posted in the bugs forum. The point is when manual hp is being used it shouldn’t adjust the hit points by any assumption.
