The title mostly says it all; if you setup a sub-class feature with options, and mark one or more of these with the "Is Granted" checkbox without setting any prerequisites, then these options are not automatically granted as you might expect.
I suspect the feature is intended for use only when an option has a prerequisite, i.e- is depending on the player selecting another option from a previous feature, such as in the case of the Path of the Storm Soul Barbarian sub-class (where your choice of storm at 3rd level determines your 6th and 14th level features, which are all implemented as options, but the latter two are automatically granted using your choice at 3rd level).
The "correct" fix would probably be to have the Is Granted checkbox disabled and unchecked on options that do not have a prerequisite, since it seems that it does nothing otherwise. However, my preferred solution would be to allow options to be granted without a prerequisite, as this would allow us to have features with automatic options, e.g- "At 3rd level you learn Some Cool Ability, plus two other abilities of your choice", though still be limited by level.
Since the preferred fix isn't really a "proper" bug fix as such, I've also posted this as a feature request here, though the current behaviour does technically appear to be a bug, or at least is a misleading UI.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
