I can imagine him being a storm Herald desert. And whenever he rages he starts to overheat thus the fire damage
It's the Aarakocra by far. They can fly very fast, they have a natural melee weapon, and because rage gives you resistance to bludgeoning damage so you can fly 500+ feet up and use fall damage to increase your damage output up to 20d6 bludgeoning with an unarmed attack (a punch). The only downside to this is you take half the damage if you don't pull up in time which requires a pretty hard acrobatics check. But, then again that's why we have clerics.
That doesn't make any since. A flying speed doesn't matter when you are in melee range.
It's more to do with countering flying enemies and bend and to chase down enemies with ease when they flee.
But I'm not convinced they make the best barbarians.
It's the best because I also am cursed with lycanthropy and have a full mastery of it. And I can transfer fall damage if I fly high enough. The Dmraised the fall damage cap to 100D6 and I can live through taking that damage. Long story short because I can fly and because I am a barbarian I can deal up to 600 points of damage and live through the fall. I did this and I 1 shot King Snurr when I was level 13. Now, do we still need to keep rambling on about how this isn't just the superior barbarian race but the superior race period?
It's a great race. If you manage to never go inside. Or underground. Or in most dungeons where you can't fly stupidly high and fall on your enemies.
Well the barbarian class itself is meant for those kinds of situations so 9 times out of 10 my party and I will get through a dungeon without going below 25% health. Also, that's why I keep a second ace in the hole. I told you that I am also a werebear and because the Aarakocra's flying speed at level 1 is 50. Right now mine is 80 which can outrun most things you'll come across in most high-level dungeons such as under mountain which resides under the yawning portal.
Why Mountain Dwarf? Hill dwarf is better for Barbarian? Am I missing something?
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1. Wisdom is useful to help prevent mind-control (which I have read should be at least 14). Dwarven Toughness.Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level. Major plus for Barbarian?
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2. Dwarven Armor Training. You have proficiency with light and medium armor. Could be argued that armour is useless, but regardless barbarians are proficient with light and medium armour anyway so this is wasted?

Sure, any race can be amazing if your DM just changes the rules to let you do whatever you want.

Mountain Dwarf with standard Array 15 str, 12 dex, 14 con, 8 int, 13 wis, and 10 cha has 17 str, 12 dex, 16 con, 8 int, 13 wis, and 10 cha to start and can get to 18 str at 4 with a half feat or 1 str/1 wis. Starts with 15 HP.
Hill Dwarf: 15 str, 12 dex, 14 con, 13 wis and 10 cha has 15 str, 12 dex, 16 con, 8 int, 14 wis, and 10 cha with 16 HP. They will only get to 16 or 17 str at 4, but they'll be up 4 HP on the mountain dwarf at 4 with all else equal on HP/con terms.
1 is much more offensive in early level priorities while the other is better at defensive progression early. What you have to weigh is whether the presence of a few more HP will make a difference over more damage and that will be weighted by party composition. More Str=more damage through more hits and more damage on hits where the extra strength doesn't factor into the equation. If you have a party comp that helps keep you upright, str almost always will win out in total damage since you would have to take a hit that would knock you out as a mountain dwarf but not as a hill dwarf to have the hill dwarf pull ahead. However, X damage>0 damage and any time those few extra HP or that bonus to wisdom keeps you in a position to keep attacking will favor the hill dwarf.
Typically, the offense will win out as long as the defensive differences aren't extremely large. But a party of glass cannons will get more benefit from the hill dwarf in several instances.
The conversation does change with Tasha's allowing the superfluous armor proficiencies to be changed to other proficiencies and the stats to be changed around, but in general those changes favor the mountain dwarf.
I disagree with you. Generally speaking from a mechanical perspective, the changes to Tasha's allows you to have 16 str and con to start (with the HP bonus, at the cost of what for me...is dumping charisma to an 9 instead of a 10. The skills and weapons, are really irrelevant for a barbarian in most cases. Bonus hps is relevant in most combats.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Every bonus HP is closer to 2 effective HP thanks to rage resistance. Hill Dwarf is substantially better as a Barbarian than Mountain in all but the most niche situations.
The Yuan-ti is mechanically the most powerful Barbarian (and arguably the most powerful for any class). You can also reasonably argue for the Shifter Wildhunt.
But how about DDAL approved races? Half-elf is an interesting choice, especially if you’re doing point buy. 4 ability score points to spend, plus advantage against charm and immunity to being magically put to sleep.

If you are moving stats and using standard array, then you'd have a 16 in strength and con and my array would still give you a 10 charisma. If you are going point buy, it's a different conversation than I was suggesting. Tasha's moving stats comes down to the difference between a half feat and an 18 strength at 4 or a half feat or an 18 at 4. Choosing a full feat at 4 pushes the decision down the road and continues to favor hill dwarf the longer that decision is pushed. Getting strength maxed sooner allows for con increases sooner, negating the HP advantage for hill dwarves. They are close enough that it depends on what your preference is on how to build.
Changing the armor proficiencies to other proficiencies won't go to weapons as barbarians are already proficient. Therefore they'd go to skills or tools. If those aren't important to you, then the point is a non-starter for you.
I have a Warforged Barbarian. Yeah That's Right.
He has a little bit of PTSD from fighting in the last great war. And that is what sets him off in a rage sometimes. But other than that, the adventure and/or quest is always full of excitement because he was built precisely for the purpose of kicking but wherever he goes
Half Orc makes best Barbarian

Actually none of these

Can a half-orc barbarian 2 shot King Snurr at the 13th level and beat two adult white dragons in athletics checks

Chilling kinda vibe.

Gnome isn’t on the list. Fix that.

I treat the hill dwarf as having a +2, +1, and +1or2(con only)
