I think that's not a personal issue at my tables that often some buffs and specially inspiration are let appart by players and DMs just becouse it's easelly forgotten. I've heard that same matter a lot from fellows DM's and players and all over the online community. That's more often when it comes from inspiration points, bardic inspiration and whatever might grant the abbility for players to choose when that bonus should be applied in the game. A player character might receive inspiration that the player decides to keep to another moment that they judge more helpfull and than the course of the role turn everyones attention to another matter and that inspiration might be forever forgotten inside a memory shard. The same for bardic inspiration.
There's a pretty fine solution for that matter when it comes for in-person sessions where players can have a bunch of tokens and rings to place over sheets or minis so anytimes they round comes up both players and dm's have a remainder for what bonusses that player have avaliable in case the trhill of the moment have made them forget it and, well, I think that's a pretty cool solution that can be adapted for online tools. Today we have a toggable button for inspiration, but I might say that even it's not a tiny one, that can easely be let apart when tension comes trhough the narrative and players get focused on they're usual feats to overcome an issue. And also, don't having that info right trhough the initiative tracker made it easelly forgottable for the DM too.
So, there's some suggestions that I think could help improve the use of thoses mechanics into the UI of DDB that you might have though already or might not:
- Make the inspiration box more noticeble by adding some glowing/twinkle effect to the sheet (like the party wizard but less disturbing) so anytime that a player gon check its sheet. That might help better the players to actually use the bonus in heated moments of the game when they feel pressured and forget almost everything that its char can do.
- In the same way, the sheet could have a toggable box for buffs/debuffs. Maybe all integrated with inspiration and conditions, maybe not. But something that can be easelly spoted in the moment for players to be alert of its bonuses at that turn/event.
- Also, integrate that inprovements to the combat tracker, where the DM can not only keep track of the party active buffs/debuffs but also mark monsters/npcs that might be affected by a buff/debuff/condition.
- There'se no need to auto track effect time, etc. But would also be nice to have that bonuses as option in the rollable buttons. So, when a sheet/stat block have, for exemple, bardic inspiration toggled on, the player/DM can left click the button and (beyond adv./dis.) it have that bonus options to add ro that roll right trought the log without need to roll a separeted dice and calculate manually the result.
