will us non-preordering folk ever be able to get them? i honestly just bought Acquisitions Inc on here because i saw them on the latest dev update, then dug around for an hour trying to figure out why they weren't there, only to find that its preorder exclusive. i dont preorder anything (learned my lesson my video games on that), especially when you wont show the content listing until release. im honestly never going to use 95% of that book (might someday make a verdan), so im sorely disappointed i bought it over an incorrect assumption. also just a sidenote that ill probably make bug report thread for later, the vehicles from it aren't usable in the extras section.
anyways, i'd even purchase them in a pack. even if you want to keep those ones exclusive for the sake of people that did preorder, i think it'd be a nice feature to add some generic ones for everybody, some for subscribers, and some exclusively for people that bought bundles. that rounded square character portrait looks awful after seeing frames.
Being able to buy the preorder bonuses is being considered. They more or less want to do it, but are deciding prices, fairness, etc. So nothing they can confirm (thus not on roadmap).
You're really not missing out on much. 95% of the frames are annoying novelties that detract from the character portrait or obscure or even outright block it out. The portrait frame is so damned tiny already and the bonus frames reduce that area even more for no real benefit. The backdrops are also somewhat pointless. Despite the fact that Adam insists that I am not seeing what I am seeing and that even if I am, then it's 'working as intended', some of the backdrops you only see a small corner of because they don't resize to the browser window. Often they're also chopped and changed from the original images (taken from the books) to be... I don't know, something, not sure what the point of the changes are.
The only real benefit of any of the pre-order bonuses I've found is the colouring of the frames and, really, that's not really something worth paying money for.

while i understand they aren't much or of any real value, i would still like some. im an artist, a photographer, and kinda just admittedly picky, so looks and little details are probably more important to me than most people. main point in starting this topic was to not just raise the issue, but also to suggest the possibilities of a few generic ones for free, a few for subscribers, a few for bundle purchasers, etc, which could be options for beyond whether or not they decide to open up the preorder ones to everyone else or not, and regardless of whether they decide to sell frames/backgrounds/themes apart from other content.
Also, when will we get some actually useful portrait frames?
The ones I have so far are way too "busy" and emphasized, covering too much of the portrait itself. I would like to see more in the style of the frames around the sections on the character sheet: sleek, fancy, but not taking the focus off the portrait itself, and definitely not rendering over the portrait itself (I'm looking at you, Orrery, Cogs, Jellyfish, Spider Scarab, Amber and Wax seal!). They are supposed to be frames and not overlays, innit?

I don't mind the amber one since it's obviously 'caught in amber' and I can see the novelty appeal of it. But the rest, ugh, yes. The Wax Seal would be awesome if the centre wasn't covering over the portrait. I asked about it (thinking it might've been an error) on the Dev Update and was told that it's meant to be that way for comic effect, which, I just don't get.

I believe the joke is that it looks like the character portrait was pressed into the seal.

Yes, I see the novelty value in it as well - but that wears off in a couple seconds, and I end up with yet another portrait frame I will never look at again. Meanwhile having a portrait frame that has less novelty value, but end up being used would be a way better incentive for preorders. Or, should I say, it would actually have an incentive value.

Will new portrait frames ever come to people who are F2P or do I need to spend money to get them?
I doubt they will ever come for free as they are one of the monetisation inducements, and only come as preorder bonuses for certain books, or as a "perk" for a paid subscription.
