Hey everyone, just finished my second Session of my First Campaign that i'm DMing (so exciting) but i've had a tough time at it all... and i noticed that the Encounters Feedback Portal and the Campaign Feedback Portal were both discontinued. so i just wanted to give a little feedback here on what i've gone through while trying to DM on here. Not all of it has to do with those two either. I also put some suggestions that i thought might help out or make things smoother... i think some were already suggested though.
To start lets talk about D&D Beyond's website as a whole:
it doesn't like it when you have more than one tab leading to their website open. i often while making encounters had to flip back and forth to double check i was getting the right enemies. Or when i was making a new unclaimed character, flipping between race and the class info pages, i often found myself reopening windows. i've also had this problem when i have the maps open and i go from My Campaign to the source of my campaign's book. it will sometimes close. which frustrates me and confuses those i'm playing with.
Now lets talk Encounters for a bit:
There's no way to end an encounter. i know it's a suggested fix already, but it's driving me nuts. Second, there's no way to go from your Campaign to your encounters then back to your campaign. i have to go in a loop... go to collections, go to My Campaigns, View Campaign. or if i'm going back to the source book i have to go Sources, Featured Adventures, then click on the source book i'm using.
Also, why can't i say Orc A attacking Player 1? that way if i roll a crit i can easily do that, on top of that if Player 1, as resistance to the attack it can be taken into account. again another thing i think someone had suggested.
Next lets talk about Campaigns just a little:
Nothing is more annoying then buying a Source book, setting up a campaign with friends, then having to have multiple windows open because there's no way to link the Source of your Campaign with the Campaign... quick easy fix. while making the campaign people can select Source or Homebrewed. if they select Source then it lists all the Sources you've bought. if you pick Homebrewed it takes you to your Homebrewed list. this way you can easily go to the Source book for you campaign.
Finally let me just throw something i've seen suggested, but i think for the wrong thing:
Combining everything together. I like having the map separated from everything else. it's a good thing. i like where it's going. Campaign, Source Books, and Encounters should have a way to combine... my thought on this is from the My Campaign page, you Create your Campaign, Select your Source book or Homebrewed. Once looking at your Campaign, you as the DM can see What Source book, and how many players you have, the number of Characters, claimed, and unclaimed. can make unclaimed characters, Launch Maps, or Go to the Campaign room
What is the Campaign room? you can call it what ever you want... On the right side, in a side bar, you have the list of characters participating and their HP, as well as any status effects on them (poisoned, sleep, charmed etc.) below that you have the Campaign Encounters list, these are the Encounters that your players may run into during the Campaign. you could go a step further and have it so it only shows the Encounters for that page of the Campaign. also there's a button at the bottom to let you make a custom Encounter which you can use for this Campaign.
Or if that's too much, have it take you to the Encounters page, but allow you to come back to the Campaign room after you finish the Encounter. updating player's character data.
On the Left side, would be the Source book/Homebrewed, allowing you to watch everything one two pages, without having to flip back and forth and slow everyone down.
That's it.. that's all the Feedback i have. i don't know what's already being worked on, and how much of the stuff i suggested was said already by others... i know some has. Speaking of which, is there a place to see what's being worked on and what is being considered? (i know there's one for Encounters)
