We need to be able to turn off the 2024 rules just like we can turn off Legacy content.
What if we want to finish our campaign without updating, or play a throwback game? I'm excited about the new rules too (some of them, anyway), but we need the option. I just feel like this is going to be confusing and will force integration before people are ready. Not everyone is up to date on the changes.
+1 to that. I'm running campaign for people who only started playing DnD. They'll go nuts when they will see all the spells doubled, half of them legacy
yeah needs a toggle off, cancelled my sub when they said they were changing and if it doesn't get a toggle I'm done, already moved most things to foundry but knowing WOTC there isn't gonna be a toggle
Yea the 2024 content basically forced bloat for those who want to stay with the 2014 rules. As someone who does not want anything to do with the 2024 this is a inconvenience for sure.
Similar feedback, but from the opposite side. I want a way to turn off Legacy content, sitewide.
For example, I just looked at some of the Wizard statblocks (from Monster's of the Multiverse, which replace Legacy statblocks) and all the spells refer to 2014 spells. I get that that works for the posters above... but for me, that's unacceptable. Surely in the settings you can come up with a way to pick which version of which ever game element (2014/24) you want to use.
And to be clear, the abomination that is having both appear that is Conditions, is NOT an acceptable option!
+1 to that. I'm running campaign for people who only started playing DnD. They'll go nuts when they will see all the spells doubled, half of them legacy
Agreed!! I'm also starting a new campaign using the 2014 rules (we planned to play before the 2024 stuff was out but scheduling issues ugh) and they're new to DnD. They've been messaging me being very confused.
The amount of clutter it creates is pretty annoying. Just like there is a toggle for legacy content I would like to see a toggle for 2024 content so it stops the bloat and clutter.
Yeah we were playing tonight and whenever we were looking at rules on our character sheets they were now all full of the new 2024 rules. (We first noticed that when a player was trying a grapple and his character sheet now said it worked with a save instead of an opposition check). It’s not that we won’t ever play with the new rule set, it’s that right now we are in a couple of campaigns that we intend to finish with the rules we know and not have to argue with both set of rules at the same time. This should simply be obvious…
I did not buy the 2024 PHB, I did not want the 2024 PHB, I have no intention of changing to the 2024 PHB in the near future.
I have paid for so much digital content that I wish to use as it was provided to me and do not wish to upgrade.
The reason for my resistance to change is because I believe that I have enough content, I can play an infinite amount of D&D with what I have already purchased, and I can share it with my players.
WotC, please give me an option to continue using my legacy content without having to also see the 2024 content, you will still get my yearly subscription, and you may even get me to look at the new rules, but not by forcing me into it.
Clicking the arrows to hide 5.24 content works OK, but is annoying and inelegant. If I were trying to get a new player up to speed, telling him or her to "be sure to ignore all the stuff at the top and close it so that you're looking at the right versions" is likely to be something that causes confusion. Even worse are new ASI-granting backgrounds which I assume are options by default.
They need to bring back the ability to de-select "Expanded content" by source as well. None of the Strixhaven spells are allowed in my games due to poor design and it stinks to have to tell tell a player "Sorry, you picked a spell that's banned, I don't allow Silvery Barbs" mid-combat, when it could be avoided by just turning it off.
It would be okay if the Legacy content was consistent, but for example spells that did not get reprints or modifies dont have the condition (Strixhaven books for example)
This means that spell lists are a combination of Legacy marks, non legacy marks, and spell that dont have legacy marks that are still 'old' versions. If you want to play 5e spells then you have to check every single spell as you prepare it to make sure its the right one
I've un-subbed my master tier subscription. If they don't add the site-wide toggle, I'm done spending money here or anywhere on D&D. No more books, no more anything WotC.
Just the change to tooltips and monsters in the modules will make this site unusable to me as a DM.
I'm not switching to 2024. If I want a new edition of 5e, since WotC didn't want to make an actual 6e, I'd just go play Level Up A5E.
It's also infuriating that certain add-ons like Tasha's Cauldron of Everything no longer works in conjunction with legacy content. You want to use 2014 Elf with unique ability increase from Tashas instead of using the baseline stats? Well we know you paid for that and had access to it yesterday, but screw you, you can't use the stuff you paid for unless you use our cool 2024 stuff.
Wait, Tasha's is no longer usable with 2014 content, for which it was created? That's incredibly poor design. Is that even intentional?
What I originally wanted to say is that I agree; WOTC had years to see this change coming and do it right; there needs to be a toggle for at least character sheets, but preferably side-wite (at least while logged in), to choose which content you want. They promised "backwards compatibility" and for "all content" to be still "fully playable", they need to fulfill that promise.
The other aspect of this is rules; I'm playing a 2014 character in a 2014-rules campaign; yet when I check the rules for grappling, I get the 2024 rules, not the 2014 rules, for which the character was built. Beyond will say they're treating the new rules as Errata, I assume. Well then also give them all out for free, like Errata is supposed to be, and don't sell them for 60€ (with the marketing rivaling or equaling new editions).
There needs to be some sort of toggle to take out 2024 content. I have no desire to use said content and it has just made my sheets incredibly cluttered. High level casters are a nightmare to look at and the organization is wrong.
If you're going to create a new ruleset, have it completely separate or optional.
We have campaigns currently running, having everything update is ridiculous especially for those that aren't immediately transitioning. This has made D&DBeyond useless for anyone not solely playing the 2024 rules. Please allow a toggle, or fork of the product, as of now I will be cancelling my subscription as the realization of how little control I have over it's offerings is once again rammed into my face.
Similar feedback, but from the opposite side. I want a way to turn off Legacy content, sitewide.

I saw a Legacy and Extended Rules Toggle in the Home section of the character creation. Those should turn off 2014 content, as well as Tasha's and Xanathar's. Unless the toggles aren't working as intended yet.
I will not be utilizing the 2024 ruleset as none of it inspired me to be excited about the changes, and greatly desire the ability to disable that content so I can continue to use the service and books I’ve paid for.

Yeah, we definitely need this toggle. The tooltips are unusable in their current form.
