No that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking for a way to keep track of the number of hit dice I have left and the max number of hit dice I can have. For example, if I'm a level 2 Fighter I'll have a maximum of 2d10 hit dice (right?) but if I've used one then I'll have 1/2 hit dice. That info is what I don't see.
It does not show it outright, no. In the short rest menu, that's where you can keep track of those. There are boxes, one for each hit die you have in total. If you have have previously used a hit die on a short rest, the box for the ones you've used remain checked. They replenish accordingly per long rest(used two, one box becomes unchecked). It's really only the place to check that info.
Oh there it is! Yeah I guess that's better because you can only use them when you take a short rest anyway so it helps you follow that rule and brings you context when you use them. Thanks.
Now that I'm playing with it for the first time, it's weird that you can un-check it even though there's not point (the only way to uncheck them for good is Long Rest). It just shouldn't even let you un-check them imo.

You really can't. It only shows it unchecked when you do so. If you close out of the short rest window and open it back up, it's remained checked. But yeah, they should make it so you can't uncheck it in the first place.
How would this feature work with Dwarven fortitude? Would you be able to click the boxes, and then still click cancel and have them marked? Some classes have short rests that replenish stuff, so you wouldn't want those to trigger when you use the dodge action to expend a hit die for your dwarf.
This is actually annoying in our current campaign. Our DM has decided to "charge" us hit die uses for certain abilities and other things (not certain exactly how it will work, we just had session 0 where he told us), but I'm playing a warlock, so if I use the only conceivable way to access the hit die totals to "spend" one here in DnD Beyond, it will reset my spell slots and a few other abilities. In my opinion, this is bad design, especially when, as darkwonders pointed out, there are abilities that effect hit dice. If anyone from the design or programming team actually reads these, please just put the total number of hit dice available somewhere on the main page, perhaps as a small display in the HP box?

Was there a solution for this? I have a player in my party that has this feat and I'd love to give him some specific instructions for this. Would it just be to check what abilities he's used that would reset as well as his current HP and then have him use it to spend the HD?
Just clicking the short rest, you can check and uncheck the number of hit dice used, but when you click out of it, the change isn't saved unless you actually take a short rest. Custom features that consume hit dice can't be used with DND Beyond. You just have to remember that you used it, and then you can't automatically apply the hit dice you use when you actually do take a short rest. This is an obvious weakness that I hope they'll fix.
I don't see any way to keep track of hit dice used on the character sheet. I'd expect it fits will in the bottom left under limited use items.
Are you asking about how to roll hit dice to recover HP? Click the short rest button, and it gives you that option.

Thanks. I was wondering how that worked. The setup is a bit "odd" at first... but..... actually the end product is pretty simple and elegant.

It would be good to be able to see what the character's hit dice is at least, for things like the Healer feat
Why can’t Hit Dice be tracked?
They can, just click the Short Rest button to open the menu and see how many hit dice you've used and how many you have left:

This is also a problem with Wither and Bloom. I expended a Hit Die outside of a Short Rest and I just have to remember it. We need this feature.
And how am I supposed to track hit die mid combat (Lifedrinker invocation) without taking a short rest (and resetting my pact magic slots etc.)?

There should be a way to change the amount of Hit Dice you have spent, without needing to take a short rest, for things like Arcane Vigor.
