I like the concept of improving these screens, and I thank you for taking the time to look at them.
I would just like to offer some feedback on the new layout. I find it very taxing on the eyes because there is very little contrast between parts of the screen, the images are blurry and the character information is very difficult to read.
I am far from a UX designer, but with a few very easy and minor tweaks, this page could become more readable:
Remove 'blur' on background image
Darker borders
Add borders on overlapping elements (character image)
Text shadow around light text over the backgrounds (this is the main change required IMO)
I think the images were compressed when they were uploaded, making them extra blurry. But I do see your point about the text popping more in your example.
Aye. The images have scaled poorly, however I did see they added extra blur in CSS so it may have been intentional. It's only my personal opinion but I'd prefer the backgrounds to be sharper.
