Is there any chance that we can have "Races" cut in half on the drop down menu (because it is currently unnecessarily two spaces wide and add "Sidekicks" beside it? Awesome for small player count games to be able to pull those up quickly without having to create it as an Extra on a character sheet and even with my 4 Player Campaign they only have 1 Melee Character (Which is a Moon Druid so she doesn't always want to be Wild Shaped anyways) so they have a Warrior that travels with them and I eventually printed a character sheet for her and filled it out, but it would be nice for her leveling up to not have to use such a round about way of tracking those stat and equipment upgrades down.
Honestly, my ideal set up for this would be to be able to "Create a Character" in the campaign and be able to make a full character sheet for them in there, but without fully creating an actual character because then they are going to be much stronger than a Sidekick is intended to be. Would make it so that I can equip and unequip gear and keep track of their items and gold properly without having to physically print a stat sheet and fill it in Old School style.
I definitely second NPCs being separate from PCs and having their own inventory (it would be perfect for vehicles and mounts too), and I believe this is planned. Being able to print/export monster stat sheets would be nice (especially after implementing previously mentioned inventory system).
I'm not sure what you mean by round about leveling (or at least can't think of an easy fix short of asking them to make a brand new interface specifically for sidekicks when the monster list works fine IMO). Also not sure what you mean by "actual stat sheet." They have a perfectly functional stat block.
I want them to have the same style character sheet as what a PC has, just a lesser easier to use version. Thus, still having equipment, inventory, actions, reactions ect but with the same style page we use for players right now. That way when I change from a Chain Shirt to Splint Mail it auto changes the AC and what not. If you have casters, you could maybe choose spells and be able to track their spell slots and what not without making to actually create a full fledged Classed character.
Edit: The "round about way" I mean for tracking down what they gained when leveling is clicking back and forth between a level 5 and a level 6 "Extra" Warrior so I can see that they gained Extra Attack so I can add it to the physical Character Sheet that I ended up printing and writing out instead so I could track that I put Splint Mail on them and if they ever equip a magical item or a different weapon (Which mine has) then just using the Stat Blocks that are available aren't sufficient in the end.
In the end I believe DND Beyond has done an amazing job with their UI and this and as you mentioned something like a "Bag of Holding" page or other things like that are all that is missing. A+ to them and I hope they can or are working on something like this.
They are simplified stat blocks, I don't think they need anything PCs have except inventory and notes. Features, actions, abilities, saves and skills. They are all written in a way that takes less space than a character sheet (kind of wish character sheets were more like monster stats).
Your roundabout way sounds even more roundabout than it needs to be. Just use the sidekick level up charts in their books of origin:
Doesn't work so well for the first level of each new book (especially spellcaster between levels 6 and 7, IDK who f**ked that up), but easier than what you've been doing.
