Could it be possible to have a visible icon in the spell list on the digital character sheet (and possibly other places on D&D Beyond) for spells that require a material component that has a gold value (e.g. arcane lock : gold dust worth at least 25 gp, which the spell consumes).
As per the rules, the caster must absolutely provide the material component for a spell that has a material component with an associated cost. But looking at the spell lists, there isn't an easy way to see which spell requires that kind of component and which doesn't (i.e. material component that can be replaced by using a focus).
I think a small "M" icon beside the spell name (like the "C" for concentration or "R" for ritual) would be much useful for both players and DMs.
Seconded. This would be incredibly useful to me--both as a player (since I play mostly casters), and as a DM, when I have to remind certain players that they do not have a limitless supply of gemstones.
Also, it would be hugely useful in the spell list page to filter spells by whether they require costly material components. That matters a lot when picking spells. (Bonus points if we can distinguish between components that are consumed in casting and those that are not.)
Important: This is about components with a gold piece cost. I am aware that we can filter by whether a spell has material components, but 90% of spells with material components can be satisfied with a spellcasting focus or a component pouch. We need to know when a spell is in the 10% that can't.
Thirded. This is something that both my players anx other DMs have overlooked.
An arcane trickster in a campaign I play in bought a 10GP spell focus dagger so he could cast chromatic orb. There is more than 1 thing wrong with that.
I would like to bump this thread up and add in something to this. I would like to be able to add spell components, such as 300gp value in diamonds to my inventory as ammunition for my revivify spell. I've manually added it as a custom item, but these are necessary components to the spell according to raw, so they really should have official item entries.
