I'm not sure you need separate entries for different types of special or magical items of the same effect. In particular I think you can just have one entry for "adamantine armor" and include a note or link to the compendium page on armors, as opposed to a separate entry for every possible variation of adamantine armor.
This seems like a problem common to web-based interfaces: long long lists. I like the ability to easily sort the lists of monsters and items by types, but if you can try to reduce the sheer number of entries I think that could be helpful (e.g. perhaps dragon types can be group by color/metal and have sub-entries for ancient, adult, young etc.)
And down the road, I would love it if there can be a way to "favorite" particular entries or to integrate the compendium, spell/item/monster lists into campaign materials and character profiles. Thanks.
Actually I see the challenge: if you have individuals entries for every variation of magical items, instead of just a general entry like "weapon +1", you can more directly and easily link individual items to specific characters, locations etc. Maybe it's possible to rethink magical items as item enchantments that can be added or subtracted to particular pieces of equipment? Like adding a tag?
I think a good idea could be to add a new drop down menu of sorts to the entry.
For example: there is an entry for Adamantine armor, you then click on the plus sign to open up a menu of the different types, i.e. breastplate, padded, etc., that way you can still keep the function of individual entries while cutting down on the bloat of having them all seperated. It doesn't 100% solve the problem but it does cut down on the number of entries you have to scroll past to get to what you are looking for, or if you are just perusing.
