100% agree. And I would add that the only reason wish is still in the game is that D&D traditionally hasn't supported high level play.
Someone might defend it by saying the DM has final say in what it does but I say the problem there is it purposely sets up a DM versus player conflict. It can be poisonous. Wish should be the purview of powerful artifacts or deities, not something players can pick from a list.
By the time the PCs are 17th level (when a wizard gets access to Wish), the PCs are so powerful that this one extra spell isn't going to that world changing in comparison.
Having said that, our campaigns never get that high in level since the power level is just crazy!
