They are the only table group I have access to, and also they are my friends so it is in good spirit. I just want to get a build that can get back at them
There is no build for that. As Agile_DM has said, this is not a mechanics problem, this is a player/group dynamic problem. If the whole party is set to kill you, you have practically no chance of winning short of plot armor and/or homebrew provided by the GM. You are outgunned on durability, action economy, in combat abilities, and out of combat abilities.
If you want to get back at your party, talk to your GM to get that plot armor.
I mean like most of the party has quit (they just wanna do other stuff), so now it is just me, my DM, and a PC that is a ranger (generally anyway)
My point still stands, talk to your GM.
If it is a one on one, any class will work, you just have to go about it in different ways. If you want to do paladin or cleric, your best bet is to catch them by surprise with Hold Person (or any spell that immobilizes them), and then go nova on them and expend all your spell slots as fast as possible on the strongest damage dealing spells.
So what’s the problem with other class abilities recharging on a long rest, or have I interpreted that wrong?
So say if you were a sorlock. Only the pact magic slots would recharge on a short rest, and the sorcerer spell slots would recharge on a long rest. The same would go for a Paladin warlock. This is in place to limit the OPness of the sorlock
yes that’s the point of the different class abilities and short rest pact magic is part of what makes a sorlock powerful
If you like playing a Warlock and are interested in playing a Paladin or a Cleric, then Paladin will mesh better with a multiclass Warlock
