im in 6 rn playing them almost one a day just trying to learn and have fun since i have the time also by then i feel ill have a better grasp of the rules then and the classes
Some advise, don’t let the players derail the campaign unless you think it’s fine. Another bit of advice is to just have fun! Dnd is all about fun. You don’t need to go really strict on the rules, just make it fun for everybody, people don’t care if you don’t know how to dm or if the monsters don’t get opportunity attacks. If you and your group can all have a laugh together then that’s the best thing. Also your the DM, the rules aren’t black and white you can mix it up to be more suitable, don’t think they have to be there.
You will make mistakes. Do not be afraid of making mistakes. Just work on doing better next time. There's a lot of learning in being a GM and you're not going to get there without some trial and error. Don't get too hard on yourself- you don't need to be completely perfect. And if you watch Critical Role or a similar show, don't expect the game to be anything like that. They're a bunch of professionals with years of practice, don't compare yourself to them, it'll just cause frustration.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Yeah. DMing can be a massive time investment. I have spent countless hours making maps alone.
The map making does not have to be. There are tons of sites out there that have free maps. I love Dyson Logos' work, which is available for download on his site. A new DM can take one of his 5 room dungeons and build a session around that. His HUGE maps can be the backbone for a campaign.

what are the websites? id like to check them out
Dyson has a huge chunk of his maps available for free use. I am not sure what kind of trouble I get into promoting a site. So I will just say Google "Dyson Logos", or "Dyson's Dodecahedron" and see what comes up. I typically have 5 of his maps in my binder and I can pull one out whenever my group rolls "ruins, cave, or dungeon" on a random event table. He actually designs them to be imported into VTT's.
thank you very much i will check them out

Prepare not to sleep.
in all seriousness, go wild! Have fun! Make stuff up! DM’s judgement always trumps rules, if you want to change a rule, do it!
