Hello! There is a batch of players that are making new level 1 characters in my local AL, but noone wanted to play a healer. I thought about making a lightfoot halfling divine soul sorcerer. I really love the idea of a little healer that can move through space occupied by medium sized players to deliver twinned heals. Later I would get a single level dip into life cleric for some armor and buff to the amount healed by spells, and possibly a 1-2 level dip into celestial warlock. I would be able to snag a huge amount of healpful cantrips. A second level for warlock would mainly give agonizing blast to boost elsritch blast damage a little for when no healing is needed.
Does it sound like a decent idea, or do you have any advice on how to make it better?
Probably start with sorcerer for con saves. Take a level of life cleric (use medium armor + shield). Take several levels of sorcerer (maybe 5 levels of sorcerer for third level spells). Then consider adding your warlock levels for level 7 and 8. Then continue with sorcerer to 17 for 9th level spells.
Stats would probably start off as 8 14 14 10 13 16 though you could move 2 points from int to wis for 8 14 14 8 14 16 if you don't mind 8 int. If you go with the first set you would take resilient wis somewhere down the line.
If the character sounds fun to play for you then go for it.
Mechanically, you might be better going sorcerer and just dipping hexblade for armor and warlock abilities. The divine soul can pick up sufficient healing spells, the cleric dip mainly offers armor+shield and some first level spells which frees up a couple of choices on the sorcerer list (which is very limited). Take devils sight as the other invocation to give your halfling some ability to see in the dark.
However, from a thematic point of view, the one level of life cleric and 2 levels of celestial warlock fit your healing theme much better.
One last point though ... in AL (at least where I play), the groups often switch up week to week so you never know exactly what mix of characters will be there. The other thing is that 5e doesn't need a dedicated healer, in most combats at least one character with healing word is enough for in combat healing since it gets a downed character back on their feet and resets their death saving throws. On the other hand, your divine soul sorcerer would probably take a few other good spells that aren't dedicated healing spells which would also support the party very effectively.
