Hi all, having recently found pbp as a way to play and seeing how many people want to join each campaign, I was considering running a short beginner module on here to see if I like this style of dming. I have run wdh in person before and some homebrew campaigns but am unsure what makes a good pbp campaign.
If anyone has advice on how to run pbp campaigns or good modules for pbp I would be very appreciative.
I recommend checking out sites like RPGCrossing for good Play by Post campaigns.
There are many different approaches, but one of the best features of PbP is that everyone can slow down and take their time. You can be much more descriptive about your scenes (including posted imagery), and players can delve more into subtle behaviors of their character without bogging down the game. It's capable of being much more theatrical from a literary perspective.
Players will also be much more optimized in combat, since they may have hours or days to think about each 6 second round. It is also hard to manage things like initiative and equal playing time, since some people simply have more free time than others.
For PbP, focus more on the storytelling, and less on the mechanics.
