Going to be starting a new campaign shortly with the group... going to be set in Ravenloft and they are a family of teenage halflings... with lycanthropy! The plan is at the start of each session to pick two random numbers (1-20), and whenever they roll a d20 and get one of those numbers, they turn into a werewolf for 10 minutes. Looking for advice on how to level up (or adjust) the werewolf stats they will use by level. Obviously, it's a huge advantage at level one for them... but that will definitely not be such a cool thing for them once they are higher levels. Thanks in advance for any input!
I’d suggest looking at existing class features (like Barbarian rage or Druid wildshape) to get a sense of how to level it. In fact, I could just see it as a reflavored rage that has a chance to happen no matter your class. That’s probably how I’d do it, assuming you have no Barbarian who might be annoyed by it.
Also, I’d recommend cutting down to one number to trigger werewolfing. 5% is kind of a “magic number” in statistics: it’s when something really starts to feel special and surprising for most people. If it’s two numbers (10%), it’ll probably happen so often it gets boring. And they’ll be terrified of Persuasion rolls in town!
