I am working on an idea for a post apocalyptic homebrew game with 3 players.
They love the idea of a post apocalyptic setting. My current idea is that the previous well settled and flourish continent became a sparring ground for two large beings/monsters. There are now cults that worship who they think should have won, and the landscape is still recovering.
My questions is: Which beings might work in this idea? Even if y'all could give me some ideas or thoughts about what two beings to pick or even one of the books to read I would be very appreciative! I do want the two beings to be very different. AKA not two elementals and I am looking for something more interesting than the classic angels vs demons.
What might happen if the sky and the earth themselves turned against each other? Volcanoes, spraying smoke and ash into the air, whirlwinds and lightning strikes tearing up the ground. The world would be covered in fissures, great chunks of the earth heaved into the air by winds more powerful than any could imagine. The sky would be dark and still, a dark cloud covering all. If the two great beings "killed" each other, perhaps there would be further consequences. The rain wouldn't fall, the grass wouldn't grow, the sky would be dark. Humanity would be left to live off of the rotting corpses of gods.

A three-sided battle between Earth, Sea, and Sky could be a good option. Though at that point, you've got your elementals again!
You could have collossi built to defend against kaiju monsters, and have the remnants of the battles across the world - unfathomably big skeletons, fallen collossi being strip-mined for magical parts. For a properly apocalyptic feel, have it that the Dwarves mined all the magic from the world to make to collossi, so magic needs the stuff from the collossi to work (basically spellcasters need a magic rock, which they can have at the start), making magic way less common in the world. Have an open portal to the land of the Kaiju somewhere in the deep ocean. Some communities might have been built in the remains of fallen titans. Perhaps there is a single collossus left which stands waist-deep in the ocean, staring outwards in a never-ending watch.

I'm reminded of the Elder Elementals from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. You could do a war between those. A cataclysmic "rock, paper, scissors" kind of deal.
You should check out dark sun. The mr Janice (mechanics. It should say mechanics. But I enjoy that autocorrect too much to remove it) might be hard to implement in this edition, but the lore may give you ideas.
You don’t really need big monsters. You could have a massive war between races, or living and undead or humanoids and monsters. This war might have left your world in Ruin were recourses, shelter, food and water are scarce. If you really want titans I’d recommend two gods.

Any ideas?
