So my current game uses experience from beating monsters as a way of tracking levels. However, I would LIKE to give experience from "Completing Quests" In order to reward progression regardless of combat or not. I was thinking a flat rate for quests of each tier of play. (like maybe 1000 total for 1-5, 2000 for 6-10, etc...)
There are 5 players in my group so this would mean finishing a full "quest" would net a single tier 1 character 200 xp for completion (plus any additional for monsters/traps/cool rp solutions)
I don’t know if there’s a magic number, it kind of depends on how big the quest was, if you break up the rewards into bits as they progress vs waiting until the end, etc. Really, it comes down to how fast you want them to level. Story rewards can be a great throttle for that if you want things to speed up or slow down.

What would be some good Flat rate numbers/Tier?
Using the simple table in the DMG, just double the "deadly" rating for the level of the party, and give that to each PC?
