Was playing with a Path of the Giants barbarian raged,, Did calculations.. 15ft tall and over 500lbs. With a running start jumped and did a flying stomp on an enemy, landing on top. Not looking for RAW here rather what would you as a DM do taking the Rule of Cool into consideration?
Unarmed strike. 1+str mod, unless you have a feat or fighting style or otherwise. It’s not a weapon attack, so no bonus rage damage. You want to do flying unarmed attacks, be a monk.
I get you don’t want RAW, but that’s what I would rule. But I’d be really into the cinematic description. Might give you an inspiration point for a cool narrative of it.

There's also the Tasha's rules for falling onto a creature.

I would run this per RAW, regardless of how underwhelming that might be, because it breaks one of my fundamental requirements for invoking Rule of Cool; it must be unique.
For me, Rule of Cool can only come into play when the intended action is unique and specific to that situation. Otherwise Rule of Cool becomes Rule of You Let Me Do This Last Session. And once something becomes repeatable, it stops being cool.

My Rule of Cool: You can absolutely attempt to do this, so let's make an athletics check as opposed by the target's choice of their AC or acrobatics roll to get out of the way.
Something I'd factor in: The character can do this, but they are not trained to do so—not like a Monk. So, the Rule of Cool does not get to step on the Monk's ability to do unarmed strikes as an attack. The character can try it, and if they succeed, I'd let them do some damage, but not as much as a trained Monk who's the same size and weight.
Putting me in favor of RAW for reasons similar to Davyd.

Yeah, but I was assuming his max high jump height was 8’, per RAW, below the threshold for falling damage to come into play.
As I stated I was not looking for RAW. The rules on this as written are quite clear to me.
However if anyone else is curious, what we ended up doing was hit as improvised weapon vs AC with damage being str mod + 1d4. Reason for 1d4? Well that is the damage bonus from the Enlarge spell, and it was fitting for the circumstance. The following rounds were just opposed athletics vs targets athletics or acrobatics, which ever was best.

The barbarian does the damage (s)he would normally do. Target gets athletics or acrobatics check to avoid falling prone.
Are you asking for damage or "to hit"?

Giant Flying Stomp: 1d20 +5; 2d6 bludgeoning damage for the cool factor,
