Running netherdeep but I want to do a a few years down the track where the Kryn are a little more accepted and there is a smaller population of locals miffed about their presence.
I wanted to make the Festival of Merit feel bigger than just six/seven measly events.
So far I love the ideas of some more spectacular events where more adventuring groups have gathered to compete with the kryn stepping up and adding some of their own flavours to the competition.
”Tie a bow to Guppy” an oversized and cantankerous moorbounder.
”The Jumble Crawl” the way that goblin architecture stacks onto each other I would love some involving an event where teammates of other adventuring parties could throw stuff at a climbing competitor
”Five finger fillet” team flips a coin and heads or tail means the smallest of largest member of the group must hold steady while the opposite runs a knife in between the webbing as quickly as possible.
The maestro of merit - A simple chance for the bards to shine vs an unusual audience
The Dunamis Leap - a series of tensers floating discs where two teams leap for the top for a floating symbol of the Luxon.
I also have an idea that I would love to be about willpower involving a kings cup full of the grossest booze leftovers known to man and with each failure of a particular challenge they can make a con save by taking a swig and potentially staying in the competition.
I’m aiming for anything heavily fishing village, goblin, orcish, monstrous races or kryn dynasty flavoured that would be a spectacle as I’m aiming for this to be an evening event similar to a Japanese fireworks festival.
Idk how your players feel about this, and don’t mean to offend, but in the past, my players got quite bored of a lot of games really fast. I think the ideas you have and the ones in the book are fantastic, but doing so many games can bore them. If these players are really invested, by all means do it.
I think the main thing I’ve done in my games personally to make festivals bigger involve some big event. Combats are easier to organize, pick some monsters out, and either throw them out in a fighting pit, or unleash them on townspeople during the celebration. Another thing I’ve done in the past during a big holiday, was an epic chase of a killer. The first section was dashing through crowded areas of the city, where the festival was, with parades, shops, games and outdoor restaurants as obstacles, as the players tried to catch up or find shortcuts to follow them, when the second half took place on the rooftop. It was cool cinematically to finally catchup and face this antagonist who troubled the party for quite a bit of time, while fireworks and cheering came from the streets below.
Harvest Close was an episode in CR C2, that involved some festivities, but also the challenge on breaking into houses to plant false information. That was memorable especially cause the Nien faced a Kryn and got the Luxon Beacon.
I think whatever you want to do for a festival will be awesome, but if you want to make them really remember it, add some combat, or something different to really grab their attention.
