Hello, fellow DMs! I'm looking for some ideas for an arc in my campaign. (If the name Cowboys and Dragons means anything to you, please stop reading or I will revoke your crab privileges.)
Here's the deal: one of my players made a deal with a hag and she stole his memories. She also stole his twin brother, who she turned into an eladrin, brainwashed, and made him her servant.
None of the players know that.
My players are about to enter the Feywild to find the hag. How can I have the hag hinder and trick them as they set out on their adventure? I'd love some ideas!
This could be fun. Hags are great for misdirection, wreaking emotional damage, etc.!
Position the Eladrin twin as the BBEG. The foe that the characters repeatedly interact with and sometimes fight. They should think "This is the guy who needs to be taken down." not knowing there's a hag behind it all.
Since the hag took one character's memories, maybe the hag is letting them return as flashbacks while the character is in the Feywild. The only problem is they are false memories created to trick the character into trying to get the party to do things the hag wants (similar to a Night Hag's nightmares but just spontaneous flashbacks to a false memory.)
The hag is also giving the party bad PR in their region of the Feywild. As the party does more and more, sometimes due to the hag guiding the memory loss character, she spreads word of these Terran invaders causing problems. The end result is that NPC's who might normally be favorable already know about the party and don't like them. Or, worse, hunt them.
Plus, if there's a hag in play there are always two more somewhere nearby as a Coven. Always.
