Hi there everyone! I have been running a session with some folks for a little while now and the party is finally starting to click with one another. However, one party member is sort of sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the rest. They are a bit brash and braised with lawful good vibes, where everyone else is more Roleplay and backstory focused. The other party members tend to be very in the moment and story focused, while this individual is more third person and focused on being the big hero. The player is relatively new to the hobby, so I don’t want to chase them away - but I know there is more consistent fun to be had at my table. Any advice?
Not everyone is going to be comfortable going into first-person with their character, especially if they're playing something that differs from themself in some major way. And it's not wrong, it's just a different style of play that feels more safe to new players. For myself, the meaner the character I play, the more likely I am to describe his actions in the third person.
Have a conversation with this player about what the concept for the character is, and if the player is open to trying to speak as the character in the first person.
About being the hero, one character having more heroic aspirations than the others is fine, as long as it doesn't turn into main-character-syndrome. As long as the player is working with the party to pursue the party's goals and the players are all getting along, I'd let it play out.
