I'm preparing my first dungeon and dragon campaign in the Forgotten Realms by articulating Stormwreck Island with Tyrannie of Dragons. We're playing online and I'm just starting out as a DM, so I'm wondering what tools to use.
I've opted for character creation on DnD Beyond and the use of maps, but I'm very hesitant about which tool to use for notes and document sharing.
I was going to use OneNote and google drive, but I find it rather impractical to rewrite everything I want to share with my players. I know I'll be adding quite a bit of material as I prepare, for example, I've already written several lore notes that can be found in the stormwreck library, created the articulation between the two, etc. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to share with my players. Especially as I'm working from an English book, but i will mastery the game in French, which means I'll have to do a few translations. I came across LegendKeeper and thought it might be nice, but it might also be a bit too much for a campaign based on a book and a first campaign... Anyway, what would you recommend for a note-taking+sharing use with players that allows me to have something structured that complements DndBeyond/Maps?
My workflow as a GM is that my players are on a Discord Server where we use voice and video to play if we play online. If online, I can set up threads, channels, and categories to share information and vital notes with my players. This can be hidden or revealed to those necessary and the spoiler tag can also be very useful.
Here's the structure of a category for my Monday night group (i run a few groups).
Here's the setting information channel broken down into some threads:
Of course this is a homebrew world, and is the group's second full length campaign so there's a lot of setting specific info that needs to be gotten across or accessible like a world book would be.
Next up is the NPC codex from those threads:
And finally how I share individual notes of import in private messages:
You can see above the spoiler tag is hiding information that can be clicked to reveal when the player in question does in fact look at the page in their character's spellbook.
Of course this is just my workflow and I have a brain that is built to take advantage of particular structure and ordering of information. It might not work for you. However, if you're using Discord for voice and video anyway - it might really benefit you to have that all in one solution.
I used it with my player. It's perfect for the prep and between the game.
It's more difficult when i used it during the game for unhidding thing, just because it's a little bit complexe for my player to have dndbeyond+map+legendkeeper, but that work.
Maybe it's because we have done only 2 sessions for now, the problem could be the quantity of thing i want to share, my organization, or the way i use legendkeeper, which is still very basic.
Edit : I had no idea discord could do that! that very interesting, we use it for our session so it can be a nice solution!

Thanks for your help :)
I can recommend LegendKeeper as a good "D&D Wiki" style pages, where you can have hidden information and tabs in amongst what your players can see.
