So I am currently running a game in which I really pushed to players to come up with new/interesting character concepts. And it has worked really well so far, however one of my players is toying with an idea for a new character that I have a hard time trying to figure out how I would balance the mechanics of said character in question. Basically here is what I know about the character that he is trying to create:
Essentially it is a kind of Jekyll/Hyde character, He would be a high elf that had an incredibly abusive upbringing and blames the High Elfs for his issues. And when he is out adventuring and whenever he runs into another high elf in the world, He said that he wants the character to have some kind of PTSD effect and go on a massive murderous rampage(Not sure if he would kill them right there or just leave the party for a brief moment) But I figured that I would introduce some kind of DC perhaps a Wisdom Save to see if he would go into his "Kill the Elf" mode rather than it being some kind of at will thing.
Any advice on how to work with him to make the character would be helpful thanks!
So I was considering something similar for a future character with a split personality, but for this, I would suggest the Wisdom or Constitution Saving throw would be best. Now it's up to you if you want to just decide when that happens or if you want to have a "trigger" , but I would suggest the trigger personally. It could be something like a "trigger word" the abusers used to try to make them a perfect assassin, or it could be something like blood or a certain weapon.
Another thing would be similar to the wild magic for a sorcerer, where every time they do some sort of spell or action, they have to roll and if they get 1 or 20 they go murderous. Another part of that is that they can use the force of their will to re-roll, but then you can have them change at any point in time you choose(within a long rest) and after it's used it recharges. As someone who plays a sorcerer, I can tell you the urge to use the tides of chaos is VERY difficult to avoid.

Hey Gh0stViper!

Hope this helps!

I hadn't considered using the wild magic mechanic! I will look into it for sure and see what he thinks, thanks!
