so, ive been making a homebrew world for about a month now and it started because i had the idea of animal factions, where each factions leader can shift into their factions animal but each shift costs life force from the faction leaders. But as im making more of the world, it just doesnt seem to fit the world. But if i remove them it will be just another dark fantasy horror world. What do yall suggest doing/what would you do in my place?

Hi! Im Raven, I like making dice using Resin. I have a sub 20s 3x3 solve time and a sub 6s 2x2 solve time. I race Downhill MTB (Mountain Bike) and I have a channel, pls sub! (https://youtube.com/@dexter-mtb-yt)
Start with the story you are trying to tell. The world should serve the story, not the other way around.
And even if it ends up as just “another dark fantasy horror world” what matters is if it’s done well. Pretty much everything has been done in one way or another. But if you do it well, it will still be fun and the players won’t care if it’s a mashup of 2-4 other settings.
ok, thanks for the advice guys! Ill probably change the faction a bit to be darker, so it fits the world more

Kill your darlings. It's a writing and creative principle as old as creativity. Often one of the biggest signs that someone has begun to refine their craft is when they are able and willing to cut the most beautifully crafted elements or ideas as the whole project develops. So for me, I'm on the side of cutting the thing that doesn't seem to work. Usually, people are desperate to cling onto their initial ideas and try to rework or redevelop them when they should have been dropped long ago. That said, I'm a weirdo who literally rewrote their first novel from scratch after writing draft one, with no notes. (The idea being that I'd probably only retain the more important stuff). I did the same with my BA dissertation...I rewrote that from scratch in a couple of hours...so, your mileage may well vary creativity being after all rather subjective.

Yeah, Ive been thinking about how i could make it fit in my world, but i havent been able to work out how it would fit in any world where it isnt the “bedrock” so to speak of the world. So im prob gonna remove it. Ill save them for either a book i write or another campaign

Probably shift the worldbuilding to match the faction idea. It's a very interesting concept.
