Hi all. This is my first post and I am a very new DM. I have one friend who I DM for relatively often and he is a close friend. We are both just getting into D&D and are really enjoying it. I am running a campaign with a homebrew class called War Hulk. Basically a big brute that smashes things with it's fists. He is enjoying it way more than any other campaign so I want to carry it on. The campaign is a fight against Goblins to save his home town in the mountains. I have found a page http://dndspeak.com/2018/06/100-memorable-goblins/ that has a list of interesting Goblins and I plan on using it. I am thinking of turning the campaign into a war campaign against the Goblins but am not sure how large a scale it should be. Any advice or stories would be appreciated :)
My first thought is the beginning of Shadow of Mordor. Your War Hulk can ally himself with a weak and treacherous goblin who is trying to move up the ranks. The goblin gives information on the location, activities, etc. of his bosses so that Hulk can smash them, leaving empty rungs for the goblin to climb. The goblin is a real loser, but he’s useful. Could be a fun NPC for you to RP as well.
This assumes that it’s a society of goblins you are fighting, not just a big mob. Doing something like this can humanize the enemy a little, which I think makes them more interesting to fight.
