So i'm looking for ways for making a hunting quest more interesting. One of my players separated from the group, talked with a bear that asked him to hunt down a deer for him. In return the bear will allow him to take some hair and a claw to make a totem with. Once he gets to the deer a larger more viscous animal will kill it, and he can then hunt that. I'm looking for ideas to make this side quest more interesting and giving the players options for what to do.
As he's stalking down the deer, reading the tracks. A beautiful large deer drinks out of a lake. SUDDENLY, THE FOREST RISES UP, VINES REACH OUT GRABBING THE DEER AND PULLING IT WITH INTENSE FORCE INTO THE WILDERNEERS. The hunter now has to track down whatever this is, discovering a Shambling Mound has stolen his kill. Or if you're creative, something else and foresty.
