Background info: The Lucky Lyres - Weekly persistent campaign starting in WDH and currently in DMM using AL rewards/rules. We added a new player because scheduling is the true endboss and Daylight Savings Time knocked out one of our international players.
The question I need your help to answer: What happens next?
Description of what has occured: In our last session, the adventurers were captured by Shunn "Spider Eyes" Shurreth's gang. One player got knocked unconscious, another fled, and the last one surrendered. As written, If he or his thugs are attacked, Shunn Shurreth calls for bugbear reinforcements. "Shunn’s goal in any conflict is to capture his enemies and haul them to Skullport as trophies. Once there, the prisoners are brought to Skull Island and left to the tender mercies of Commander Sundeth (see “Skullport”)." There were definitely some bad choices made and overall there were party cohesion issues, but I think there's still hope.
I'm trying to consider how to proceed for next session. Since there's two characters that are captured (one unconscious), I think that an escape attempt would be unlikely while they are being transported. That leaves me to believe that they do in-fact get brought before Commander Sundeth and imprisoned in the Tower of Seven Woes. My gut tells me that the players could bring in different characters next week and try to rescue the characters who were captured aided by some members of the group who couldn't make it by the last session. I could also go look up how "Out of the Abyss" worked and see if the players can get themselves out of this jam.
