This Thread is mainly for DMs who want to play their monsters really well and use their abilities to the ultimate extent. I will be randomly posting monsters that have good tactics and using their abilities to cause some devastating situations even for advanced DND parties. Feel free to add your own, let others know of your ideas!
Poltergeists are variations of spectators that gain the Telekinetic Thrust action instead of Life Drain and makes it always Invisible (until it attacks of course).Practically the attack forces the target that doesn't weigh 150+ pounds to make a Strength Check against its Charisma Check. If it fails it is moved 30ft and for each 10ft it takes 1d6 damage.
-Tactic-
In one of my campaigns, there were 4, level 2 players at the time. They had to fight off a poltergeist in a 4 story tall building. It fled to the uppermost area of the building which was its short roof tower. After they climbed up to it, the poltergeist targeted the warlock with Telekinetic Thrustand she got 10 STR, versus 15 CHA. The warlock was lifted up 10ft, pushed to the right 10ft, and down 10ft, making her get moved off the tower. However, when she was pushed 10ft down, she hit the shingles of the roof, making her take 3d6 damage. She also had to make an acrobatics check to stay on but failed, so she plummeted 3 stories to the ground, thankfully I rolled like crap and she was unconscious. Now I know how strong poltergeists are in the right layout.
This is going to be the set up for the monsters that I have tactics for, feel free to use your own layout.
