So i am about to start a campaing in a few week. The only problem is that i really like where some of the classes are going. I already have pre-order the digital versions, but i was wondering if the playtest stuff is what i am to expect from the 2024PHB.
I can always just throw an anomaly in the world, affecting them, and we remake their character in september, but if i can save time for that part ... yknow.
Don’t overthink it. Play now and when the rules come out, let people who want to switch to the new versions of their characters. I wouldn’t even bother to explain it in-game. Just let it happen, move on, and don’t let it get in the way of the story. Of course, if you want it to be a big deal, you can do that, too. I just wouldn’t feel like it was a requirement.
The Playtest's from what I've seen from what D&Ds official Youtube channel says are pretty accurate and my friend just started a new campaign and we are using quite a few new rules, like the Bastions and new Wizard features. I'd suggest using what you like with the playtests and 5e rules and then when the new rulebooks come out, use them. I really appreciated some of the playtest changes so use those if you'd like.
Just seeing the different things, for the most give your players a chance to read over the new material and ask them if they want to keep their legacy (current) characters, or overhaul them into the new system. I honestly think the good outweighs the bad with the newer rulebooks. Weapon Masteries definitely shine as a much-needed breath of life in the game. I know I'm going to give my players that option to look at their current class paths, and the path of the newer material and let them decide. Since I'm running on FoundryVTT I'm assuming I'll have Class (Legacy) and Class when I fully update.
Just kinda keep an eye on the posts on the front page. They've been giving a lot of Class previews, which I think you might want to share with your players so it can help them think about the upcoming changes.
