I want to use a volcano the PC's previously saw in the distance as a way out of Khyber (Eberron Underdark). I'm having difficulty envisioning a dungeon, though. Magma doesn't go sideways; it goes up, and a vertical dungeon seems hard to make interesting. Just a lot of climbing with too risky a fall for fourth-level PC's. Any ideas? Thanks!
Maybe some fire salamanders live in the mountain and worship it as a god? They carve their homes in the cliffs of the mountains which bypasses the whole unnecessary climbing thing, but I'd definitely add a trap or some precarious stairs.

Are they entering from the top or base?
Base - from the Underdark.
White plume mountain from TftYP has a side view of a geyser. Might be inspiring.

The Tomb of Annihilation book has at least two volcano dungeons in it if you want to peruse those for ideas as well.
Thanks, All.
