I am DMing my first D&D Adventure with Tomb of Annihilation. Now my group of players are heading to Orolunga to kill the Nage for Nany Pupu - not really something they should do. But I do not want take away their agency. I am not really sure about the Challange Rating System( I have read the DMs guide, but still ) - I do not know if they are running into a total pary wipe or have any reasonable chance to win. They are a lvl 4 Ranger, lvl 4 Druid, lvl 4 Cleri, lvl 4 Rouge, and a lvl 5 Barbarian. Its seems quite low for such a beast. Do they have any chance to kill such a formidable enemy like an Guardian Naga? I am not sure what to expect.
they are not getting equal XP in players absence, get some individual XP for actual roleplaying and two of them are actually on their second characters in this campaign - started a few xp behind. Do you always have exact same xp in your games?
hmm... my players eventually decided to really attack the guardian naga. And took her out without many problems. They always kept distance from each other, used line of sight blocking terrain and had some really great dice rolls. The naga hat only 3 turns. I let her cast leveled up hold person twice and attacked once a paralyzed PC, killing her outright. The PCs used lesser restoration and great saves to dodge the hold person otherwise and killing her in 3 turns.
4 lvl 4 characters and one lvl5 agains CR10 - only one of them went down.
I was worried for nothing it seems :D

I don't think they stand a chance.
You might want to give the party more than a chance to change their mind.
yes - thought that too :) thank you for your input
Why is one of the PC's a higher level than the others?

I typically do, yes. But I asked only because I was curious.
