Hi I am a long time player but new DM. I am attempting to take some pre-made campaigns and alter them to create a cohesive story. I need help replacing some of the more genero D&D monsters with Gothic horror alternatives. The world has undead, werewolves, vampires, horrors, demons, devils, angels and the like. The first premade adventure has the following creatures. Obviously Worg and Zombie are fine. Thank you for your help please check in as I will be seeking higher and higher level alternatives.
Hi Maorri! I love gothic horror games! If you haven't already, I'd suggest choosing to keep the stats of the monsters as presented in the premade adventure and "reskinning" them. Hmmm...The Goblins and Boss could be a group of masked cultists and their leader. The Bugbear could be a cultist who's been infected with some evil entity growing inside him and twisting his body. The Hobgoblins could be a group of church inquisitors sent to investigate whose minds were warped by the madness growing within...
Or maybe the hobgobs are evil puppets/dolls, the bugbear is a Frankensteinesque stitched corpse, and the gobs are the mad tinkerer and his apprentices...
Err.. don't change a thing.. sort of. Make all the Goblin-folk human commoners jealous of Heroic (level) Power.. and they have created a cult/temple that has created the power in them to turn into Goblin-folk. Any "innocent" villager could be tainted by the cults madness.
