I am reading over the SKT campaign guide preparing for my first time DMing.
Bryn Shander is the town I am planning on starting in. We are finishing up LMoP so the PCs will be 5th level.
One of the quests given by an NPC involves a ship that’s gone missing. If the characters decide to look for it or this other ship mentioned, there is no mention of what is supposed to happen or what the other ship is. No explanation of where the characters are expected to eventually find anything. It just ends with some treasure from the boat they take out at the start of the search.
This is just one example. Am I supposed to make all of this up on my own for all of these quests? Do these quests tie into the main story so there’s definitive results that should take place and I’m not seeing it?
Some plot threads are meant to be used as something of an "off ramp" for DMs to use to move the players from the published adventure and into homebrew content if they want. If you come across a plot point that just fades away into nothingness, then you've found and off ramp.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Ok. So not all of them will be like this and I can “make it my own”. That is pretty sweet! This will require a bit more work but I think that will be kind of great. It’ll let me dip my toes just enough to see how I like homebrew and I guess if it’s too much too soon and I give them a quick ending before aiming the players at the Chapter 4 content.
Thanks!
