Question for the DM hive mind. I'm a fairly new DM and running tyranny of dragons, but starting at lvl 3. To give a bit more challenge I'm wanting to give one of the early "bosses" a magic sword that could go to the players. I'm debating between a life stealer greatsword or a greatsword of vengeance.
A Sword of Life Stealing only does something on a crit, so it's unlikely to contribute much to the boss fight. The Sword of Vengeance is just a +1 sword with a curse- the attack bonus is actually pretty big for a level 3 character, but you need to ask yourself how you want to deal with the cursed item being in the game?

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I would give the Sword of Vengeance at low level despite being a cursed item for the Nine-Life Stealer is a more rare and powerful item for their level.
But if you're open to suggestion for other uncommon item, a Dragon’s Wrath Weapon with the Slumbering feature would be a nice middle option.
Both can be fun for you and the players. The thing I'd focus on with this is making sure the magic item is something that can be used. Are your players running characters focused on the Greatsword?
