I'm a new DM and my players will soon finish the Dragon of Icespire Peak module, after which it's on to the main campaign. Thing is, I'm worried about if it makes sense...
The basic premise is that the Queen of Air and Darkness is at war with Titania. Both have power in the feywild and material world. The QoAaD is planning to take over the feywild and material plane with the help of the Shadowfell.
She has enlisted various helpers. The QoAaD will take care of Titania and the Feywild. The Prince of Frost will take care of the Raven Queen and the Shadowfell. The BBEG for the party will be her key player, a lich who is tasked with taking over the material plane. (-> I thought it might be fun to expand on the idea of echo worlds by making the party's final battle something that is echoed on the other worlds as well. If they succeed, all three worlds get saved)
Throughout the campaign the party will have to, among other things of course, form an alliance with the Raven Queen and Titania, who will (if they succeed) give the party the items and/or abilities needed to be able to defeat the Lich and save the material plane.
Hard to say, all comes down to execution. But jump head first into the deep end I say. The only thing I can suggest is to make a bullet point outline and maybe make some notes on the bullet points and you should find the flaws this way. Don’t get married to your ideas and allow player choice to affect the world and narrative, and be ready to change your future bullet points because of this possibility.
My immediate reaction: dang son, I wanna play in that campaign. That sounds really interesting.
I'd say make sure you can summarize the adventure premise in 1-2 sentences. That will really help you keep the goal in mind. For example: "At risk of an interplanar war, it is up to the party to unify Titania and the Raven Queen against their common enemy, and possibly take down a lich while they're at it."
Having nifty magic items from the Queen of Fairies as rewards for helping her, and so you can more effectively take down a freaking lich? Yep. That's cool.
Also. Figure out how the lich does/does not affect the players' abilities to create this tense and temporary alliance between Titania and the Raven Queen.

I'm very curious to know what you think!
