Thanks to a certain online DND steaming show I became interested in DND. A while back I was able to get my hands on Starter Set and the Essentials Kit from my local game store. I did start running the adventures Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak together. Thanks to someone online guide it work out pretty well.
During the time to run the adventures did we collect a couple of addtional books: Players Handbook Dungeon Master's Guide Monster Manual Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide Xanathar's Guide To Everything Eberron Rising from the Last War Strongholds & Followers
The players initially used the pregenerated characters from the Starter Set. After collecting some additional books we reworked the PCs. The Noble Fighter is now a Variaint Human Eldritch Knight Fighter 5 / War Magic Wizard 2 The Hill Dwarven Cleric is now a 7th level Forge Domain Clerc The Lightfoot halfling Rogue is now a Deep Gnome 7th level Arcane Trickstar Rogue The High Elf Wizard is now a 7th level Bladesinger Wizard The Folk Hero Figher is now a Rock Gnome Arcane Archer Fighter 3 / Battle Smith Artificer 4
We have finished both adventures and all the PCs are now at 7th level . I used the rules from Strongholds & Followers to turn Tresendar Manor in their base of operation We really would like to continue the campaign, if possible near Phandelver due to the Stronghold.
I know the follow-up adventure Storm Lords Wrath exsist, but is it good? Are there alternative adventures?
I also ran LMop and DoIP together and replaced Leilon with Saltmarsh (although still called Leilon). My players (only 2 of them, my housemates) are almost halfway through Ghosts of Saltmarsh and it is going together really well.
Not Princes of the Apocalypse is my main advice. It’s tempting and logical geographically and level wise, but it’s a bit of a nightmare for the DM unless you do a ton of extra work.
I used Venomfang as my big bad in Lost Mines of Phandelver, he was the one pulling the strings and manipulating the Black Spider, and I tied the cultists into the Tyranny of Dragons series.
Horde of the Dragon Queen is pretty bad if ran vanilla though, so if you're not ready to add a bunch to it, then don't go that route. My players are really enjoying it.
