Ive had this idea for a long time. I love the Baldurs Gate Series, but none of my Pc's actually know what its about. i thought it would be cool if i made this into a campaign idea. The problem would be the character motivation, since they dont know who Imoen is. I can write it as one or more of the Pc's absorbing Bhaal"s essence in the prison/lab at the start as an expirement of Irenicus. How would I write this? Any other tips?
Motivation is not that hard to do. Worst case scenario, have them start the game working for a mysterious master that gives them missions and trades magic items with them. "Oh, you found a Druid scroll that none of you, not even the Cleric, can cast? I will trade you a Cleric spell scroll for it."
I would not put bhaal in one of the PC’s. In general it’s bad to have the whole plot hinge on just one character. First, it makes them more important than any of the other characters, which can be unfun if you’re just in a supporting role. Second, the dice will make sure that character dies, and then the whole campaign is ruined. You could maybe make it an NPC they need to protect, since it’s easier to give the NPC a bit of plot armor than a single PC.

That’s a cool idea, maybe the mysterious master could be Bohdi looking to stock up on magic to capture the vessels of Bhaals essence

That actually makes more sense now that I think about it. Thank you
