So I am planning on starting a new campaign, and it'll be only the second campaign I've ever ran. But I'm a lot more confident after running my first one.
I'll have 4 players. The campaign idea is that everyone chooses their main class at level one, and then chooses a second multiclass. Everytime they level up, they will level BOTH classes in tandem (I doubt we'll ever make it past level 10 because I'm slow, however there will be no combined level cap, so they could reach level 20 in both classes. But again, doubt we'll make it there within the next 300 years)
One concern I have is balancing at lower levels. I've never played or seen someone play a character that does a 1/1 multiclass at level 2, so I'm trying to figure out how I would balance the encounters for a group of 4 players that are on paper level 2, but only one level in each class. I'm just hopping it doesn't turn out to be a nightmare. What would you all suggest?
Also, do any of you have ideas on what other issues might pop up with this kind of a set up?
This seems like a cool idea in concept, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. The most trouble I have with running campaigns is encounters. Battles, Challenge rating, etc. With this twist, it will make that aspect twice as difficult.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Yeah, that's my same concern as well. I know that CR isn't always the best way to calculate encounters, buy I'm not sure how to treat the party at low levels since yes, they are technically 2nd level, but only a level in each. Maybe increase the encounters HP to match but leave everything else as though they are level 1?

Personally I'd find the biggest problem would be getting this to work on a dndbeyond char sheet, just from the admin side of things.
All posts come with the caveat that I don't know what I'm talking about.
