So I have a level 6 one shot coming up 6 players. Basically the party are all denizens of a forest in the Feywild , protected by Guardian Trees. The edges of their homeland have started seeing signs of corruption. The cause of this (unknown to the players) is a hag who is corrupting one of the Guardian Trees. The party will be tasked with heading to this area and try to heal the land by saving the tree with the light of a forest sprite. The idea is that the sprite will be able to revitalize the tree. They'll also be each given a magical weapon or item that grants them a special ability.
As they travel they'll come up against a puzzle section (a series of riddles), then encounter two miniboss encounters on their way to the final encounter.
The first miniboss I'm thinking is going to be a beefed up ettercap and a phase spider, one of the ettercaps abilities will be to summon giant wolf spider minions each turn. The party will have to balance the adds with trying to take down the ettercap and his phase spider. The chance to rescue a trapped blink dog and several fey creatures will also be a part of it.
The second miniboss is going to be a beefed up banshee and shadow minions. One of the Banshees abilities will be to summon a darkness that encroaches on all sides, doing necrotic damage per round. One of the magical items will be a driftglobe like device that allows the user to concentrate on casting light that will keep the darkness at bay.
The big boss fight will be against the hag, I was thinking a green hag or a night hag, who is trying to corrupt the area and help the shadowfell invade and kill off the forest.
Here's where I'm having a bit of trouble deciding on how I want to build the fight.
One idea is that the hag has the special abilities of the two other minibosses, (one turn one she summons spiders, turn 2 summons the darkness, then turn three she has her own ability which might be something like have corrupted tree roots burst out of the ground and attack or something of that nature). She also has a pet displacer beast that is also defending her by targeting the weaker members of the party. I might even include other minions in the fight.
The second idea is to have the hag and displacer beast as usual, but have the hag corrupt the protector of the tree (a young green dragon using the shadow dragon template). If the blink dog was rescued earlier, it will fight the displacer beast after a round or so. The party will have to deal with the shadow dragon while dealing with the hags pings.
The last idea was to have just the hag and an adult white dragon with the shadow dragon template.
Just wondering if either of those 3 ideas would be too deadly or too easy for a 6 player party of level 6's.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
so for this part One of the Banshees abilities will be to summon a darkness that encroaches on all sides, doing necrotic damage per round i would use something similar if you want a bit more of a challenge then make the shadow based off an emotion like for example depression that way they have to make checks id say if u go with depression then like 5 performance checks to let them use things they might not use that often it would be in the back putting an area of effect spell effect that would do 1-5 damage every turn. then for the the big boss fight let them do a long rest if they choose and either do two green hags if they didn't do the long rest or 2 night hags if they did hags tend to work in groups to compensate for being weak with their magic now keep in mind night hags are stronger than green hags also if u do two hags that would up their power significantly because they could combine spells witch could be devastating i like the idea of having the displacer beast or a few goblins with extra moment speed to run in and deal damage or keep the party occupied keep in mind know your party and think about what they might do that will give you an idea of how to structure the fight. lose the dragon tho even at lvl 6 its still a bit much. i know that's a bit of a departure of what u want but i still hope it helps
