Hello, I am a relatively new DM. I have been running a campaign, however I figured I should start planning for a new one. I would appreciate some suggestions for the three ideas I have. I would also be open to anyone giving there own ideas for a campaign.
1. My first idea is a dark fantasy campaign. This is my most formed idea. The characters would all be human, and the setting would be similar to 1600s eastern europe. The characters journey begins with a mysterious letter they each recieved, leading them to a decrepit village in a once-glorious estate. Mysterious calamities have befallen the area with a strange connection.
2. This idea is less formed. I was imagining a mystery where the king of a large kingdom was murdered. There would be many suspects (and the characters would all be suspects). They would be fleeing the authorities, while also trying to discover who killed the king.
3. This isn't actually an idea. I was thinking a roguish campaign would be fun, however I don't have an actual plot in mind for it.
I think you should flesh the 2nd and 3rd idea out and, rather than asking us what we think, ask your player which one they would like to play in the most. Then, give them what they want.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
Your party are basically D&D A team, A Rogue, A fighter, an artificer and and a war Domain cleric that were framed for the murder of the king. They once lived lives of wealth and privilege, of noble birth or having achieved high ranks, they now evade capture from the elite guard.
having escaped the royal city of Hastenburg they have travelled by boat along the river Sheyenne in search of the town of Rynweld, the place of the fighters birth. Having recieved a letter from their sister shortly before the king was murdered reaching out for help. It speaks of strange goings on, of locals disappearing, of a lawless town rn by its criminals. Of mysteries to solve, coin to be earned and people in need of help.
Also, I would really hesitate to dictate what race your players choose--it's one of the few elements they control. You could ask if they are all interested in being human. I would allow that in an "all human fantasy world," there could be secret pockets of elves and others who have found ways to pass as human, or live in isolated communities so they aren't "found out." A player who didn't want to play a human would then have options, without breaking the world idea.
Kinda synthesizing the earlier points, personally rather than thinking about these as separate campaign ideas, I'd ask your players a few general questions: do they want a mystery? dark traditional or more urban fantasy? high or low amount of political intrigue? high or low magic?
You don't have to out and out tell them - here are three plot hooks or campaigns which would you rather play - it sounds like you have an idea you're excited about running, so I would try to get their input on the tone and general feel and then adapt your idea to that feedback if they'll fit together well.

They could all be interesting, but you should really be asking your players about the options. They're the noes you want invested in the idea.
are they not all the same campaign?

Agree with everyone else's posts.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of these ideas. I'm going to check with what they want and build the campaign around that.
