If Blagothkus is killed, his spirit takes over the castle and he tries to crash it into the Spine of the World. I first thought this was a load-bearing boss situation where the players have to escape ASAP, but upon closer inspection, it's going to take many days for this castle to make it from Parnast to the Spine of the World, especially since wyverns can keep up with it. I suppose it could be a threat if the players never find out that the castle is trying to destroy itself, but it seems rather unexciting. The only way the PCs are going to figure out what's happening is if they die, so there's never a rush to escape before it crashes.
I haven't played this adventure so I don't really know how it works, but maybe have an NPC in a prison somewhere who knows what is going on, and warns the players, but only when the castle is about to crash?

I don't think any of the NPCs even know. Blagothkus lied to his own ogres about what happens if he dies, and even Esclarotta doesn't understand what Blagothkus is planning or why her castle is full of cultists.
This is where the DM's creative liberty can come in. I understand that Hoard of the Dragon Queen is a lot more set then the homebrew campaign I run, but hey, as a DM if you think it will make the campaign more dramatic and memorable, go for it!
If you want it to be dramatic just set off some alarms and blaring lights with a monologue from the giant. As for crashing it maybe he over loads the ship and teleports it to just before crashing.
