I am quite new to DnD, view months ago me and friends got the Starter pack with LMoP, for obvious reasons we now want to Switch to online.
I have spend time on both DnDB and Roll20, also I already use Beyond20. The Systems are very usefull in their ways, in a long run I think DnDB is ahead but I am not Sure about following:
On which Plattform would you buy adventures when you dont have subs in both. I tend to DnDB but I worry about map creating on Roll20...not importing them - the dig Version is in DnDB, too... also tokens are easy, but hidden objects like traps etc...I wonder if I can upload all necessary stuff of one campaign with limited datavolume At Roll20...
I am sure here are bunch of people playing online, any advice? Any best Praxis Tipps?
Thanks for your answer, how are you dealing with this?
I bought modules on roll20, sourcebooks on DDB, though the reality is that most of the full scale adventure books are months of game play, so it's not a ridiculous cost vs time to buy it both ways (or roll20 and hardcopy).
While we were using mostly Roll20 for playing because I was an expat in Australia then SIngapore, all the modules were bought on Roll20 only. Note that this predated DDB's availability in a number of cases, so there was really no choice. After I returned, we wanted to play face to face again, so we switched massively do DDB. Covid has now forced us back to Roll20, but it's not too bad because the DDB basis is good and Beyond20 is absolutely god-like. Some DMs still buy the Roll20 for the maps, tokens, etc. but honestly these are not that hard to create from DDB and this is all that we need inside Roll20 these days, all the PC,s NPCs and Monsters are straight off DDB, possibly with Homebrew.
After that, Roll20 has a few features that can be nice, for example our GM for Odyssey of the Dragonlords has provided folders for all the players with all their gaming aids, all the NPCs that they know, all the specific rules of their template, etc. It's also very nice to store images, memories, etc. and actually to provide gaming aids for the players, so it fits more in another area, that of the campaign manager.
Thank you very much for your answer, this is a very helpful insight in your experience. I also find the additonal ways within Roll20 to create content very helpfull, though this is not coming with buyed adventures.

Well, the sourcebooks are clearly a point for DDB.
Indeed, the costs are not crazy escpecially not for LMoP...
I will think about both your advices, thanks a lot.
When I buy LMoP on DDB, how do my Players get the loot for their PCs? I know I need to create an campaign and add the Players to it but does that mean they have access to the purchased Items from me, maybe even after finishing the campaign and using same PC for another one?
Also, can my players use the pregenerated char-sheets afterwards for the next campaign in their own account?

D&D beyond is a much better interface for reading the adventure, but the roll20 version will be much more usable within the context of roll20.
