I'm planning a mini-campaign for my players centered on a cut-throat, nefarious regatta. Rich nobles will be entering teams into the regatta, and many will participate themselves. It will all culminate in a crazy, take-over-the-world plot by the regatta's sponsor. Etc. Etc.
I'd like to introduce a lot of the NPCs / nobles / competitors at a huge, pre-race party. There'd be sages from Silverymoon, some Amnian oligarchs, dwarves from Mithril Hall, scrappy merchants from Daggerdale, etc. And how all these diverse NPCs feel about the PCs will play out and have real consequences in the regatta. They may respond to an SOS, they may not. They might attack them directly, or help them fight off an attack. Etc. Etc.
I think it'd be fun to introduce mini-games at the party that establish the basis for these NPCs dispositions. Essentially, it'd be a ton of dynamic skill checks. And different NPC groups would respond in different ways to to our PCs' performances... i.e. success in one area might win the hearts of some NPCs and alienate others. So far, I'm thinking:
Soccer (essentially, a fight... but against the ball, with a lot of athletics checks)
A rap / spoken word battle (Performance checks, , with Adv/DisAdv depending on how the PCs handle things)
A storytelling competition (Performance / Persuasion checks, with Adv/DisAdv depending on how the PCs handle things)
A drinking game (maybe Beirut? Maybe flip cup? probably DEX / athletics checks)
A wrestling match (STR)
High Stakes Poker (????)
Any thoughts on the mechanics for these mini-games? I'd really appreciate it. Also, if you have other suggested mini-games that'd be fun that'd be awesome.
Cheers!!
