OOC: Rey is happy to wait for everyone to bypass the door so we can leave together. I think he simply makes a mental note of the wolfs bane for the moment, maybe picks a small amount off. Perhaps it's something to bring up with the others back at the pub over dinner ;)
(OOC: Should we ask the innkeeper if there's anything of note or rumors that we should know before going to the pub? People/things to watch out for, who there is trustworthy, etc? Krunchy isn't much of a persuasive type 😉)
Spoons and forks rattling, Krunchy walks near the door, takes out his recipe book and starts making a new section for Wine while he waits for the rest of the group to conclude any business at the inn (leaves with everyone else when ready).
If he sees Rae making notes or sees the wolfsbane, he'll insist on saving some for a stew.
(OOC: Approximately what time is it now and has the weather like outside changed from windy?)
As you step outside the Inn, you can still see without the need for torches, but town has already begun to light torches along the streets. Because of the town being surrounded by mountains, and the gathering storm clouds, the town seems much darker than it should be for this hour of the day.
You turn to your left a begin to make your way North. Immediately you see the stables that Christoph had mentioned. Despite being a lot fancier than you had imagined, time had clearly taken its toll on the building. Age had stripped away the majority of the rich green and red paint that had adorned the building in better times.
In front of you you see the town center. A wide, circular space clearly intended for town gatherings. In the center is a raised stone stage and in the center of the stage stands a single stone pillar about two feet in diameter and 10 feet tall. The lower half of the pillar is scorched dark, but doesn't have the appearance of having been used in decades. Around the stage, a road circles around that and major roads branch off to the North, East, and the road that you are currently on which leads to the South. Townsfolk are bustling about, clearly finishing up the work for the day.
As you approach the roundabout, you can smell the unmistakable scent of wonderfully cooked food. To your left you can see a sign on the side of the building "The Dead Eel".
The Dead Eel is, like everything else in this town, modest. While not small, the roof seemed to be a little lower than it should have been. In the front was a small wooden porch which runs the length of 2 sides of the building. While you can't make out anything through the windows, you can tell that it's well lit and you can hear the sound of music coming from the inside.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: sorry, I can't see the map image :( make sure you upload it to an image hosting website first? I may be the only one with problems.
What do the townsfolk look like? Are they fairly common people? Rey would also like to try to sense if they're suspecting something sinister. Knowing about the Wolfsbane and the amount that was hung up in the inn has peaked his interest. Are they hurrying away now that it's dark? Or just going about at a modest pace? (If I need it: Perception 5 or insight 14 )
Either way, Rey approaches The Eel and follows Val in, pausing slightly in the doorway to take in what the pub- and it's patrons look like. (Wolfsbane above this door too?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Krunchy walks past the stone pillar and sees the scorch marks, he thinks to himself, "No one would use that for cooking."
(OOC: Can Krunchy use his Dwarf Stonecunning to see if a pillar like this with scorching would be used for burning people or more evil things? If not, he'll just look for things like claw marks, fingernail scratches, etc.) History - Stonecunning: 18, Perception: 21
If there's nothing of note, he'll continue into the Dead Eel, "Hmm...eel is greasy...I wonder if they have anything good."
As you enter the Pub, you are hit with the sounds of patrons talking, as well as the smells of a variety of cooked meats, ales, and spirits. The majority the space was filled with tables and chairs which looked nearly as old as the town. To the right was a small but well-stocked bar. Behind it stood A woman with long black hair. She stood a little under 6 feet, and her black hair fell past her shoulders And stood in stark contrast against the white blouse she was wearing. Her large dark eyes greeted you as you walked through the door. A smile quickly formed on her face as she yelled across the din...
”Welcome to me Pub you dozy bastards!” She said with a wink.
“Git yer arses in here and grab a bite te eat! There! That table!” She points to a vacant table set slightly back from the rest of the Pub patrons.
As you make your way back to the table, you can see that this is a pub for the working class. The men and women in here clearly came straight from thier jobs. Farmers were still wearing thier work garments, dusty and muddy at the cuffs of thier pants. Based on the leather apron, you guessed that the man sitting next to two young ladies was the local blacksmith.
You catch bits of conversation as you pass by the occupied tables. Discussions about the weather, crop yields, and the upcoming moon festival. You catch a bit of someone talking aggrivatedly about some missing livestock and how they’ll have to be out early in the morning to go looking for them. All in all you get the sense that these folks are glad the day’s over and are looking forward to putting a few away before retiring to their homes.
Rey also noticed that the same purple flowers hung over the door and windows. Additionally, there was a large wreath of the flowers hung as a centerpiece behind the bar.
Valmarir walks up to the bar. “Allo, luv! Wha kenne I get fer ye?” The barmaid asked flirtatiously. She crosses her arms on the bar, rests her head on them and looks up at Valmarir waiting for his response.
”One of your finer wines and a warm meal, please” he replies.
”Ooo! Wine is eet?” She said popping up, the curls in her hair bouncing in response. “Well, I’ll get tha’ sent out straight! Aaand I’ll send out someone to yer table to take care of yer mates!” As she turns towards the back, her cheerful and rosy voice turns course as she yells “POOT! Poooot, damned ye!” And with that she disappears around the corner to back of the pub.
It’s only about 5 minutes after you hear the barmaid yell and disappear into the back of the pub that a small Goblin meanders over to your table.
”I’s Poot. To food, to drink?” He stares around the table as he waits for someone to order. His gaze lacks... nearly everything you’ve experienced with goblins in the past. It’s almost like he’s barely aware of who and where he is. But apparently he’s present enough to work a pub.
”Miss brings drink soon.” He said, looking at Valmarir.
XANDER PERCEPTION: As Xander looks around the room, the patrons are all drinking ample amounts, but so far everyone seems to be able to hold thier drink.
(OOC: Did Krunchy see anything at the pillar per chance?)
Krunchy hears her yelling "Poot! Poooot! Damned ye!" and takes that as a request. Never taught to turn down a request to honor the culinary gods, He attempts to break wind, winning many contests of this prowess back in his Dwarven enclave. STR check?:5
Relieved of his gastrointestinal burden, Krunchy opens up his recipe book, ready to take notes in his Wine section.
OOC: Sorry Krunchy, missed your investigation of the pillar. I’ll backfill bestimation here, and answer any questions you have.
As Krunchy examines the stone pillar, he sees a set of charred manacles still wrapped around the base of the post. The stage around the post is also heavily charred. Krunchy’s stonecunning tells him that the post had been made hundreds of years ago. The surfaces at the top as well as the workmanship on the cap (gargoyle heads that point to the 4 cardinal directions) were clearly made by a craftsman, and the stone was not indigenous to this area. As his examinations continue, he also sees that, based on the damage to the pillar on one side (likely the aforementioned manacles), this post had seen a lot of use, but not in the last 5 or 10 years. At the base of the stage, a small brass plaque had been attached. On the plaque was written “nunquam iterum”.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Ale for me, too!" requests Rey, as he takes a stool in the middle of the table, not wanting to be left out of any story telling which may occur over the course of this meal. "And some bloody boar sounds great right about now."
Rey inspects the bar dwelling. Having co-run his own among common folk with his father back home, he feels right at home in this setting. He eagerly awaits their house ale to compare it to his own. He is however, keeping an ear out for anything relating to wolfsbane, lycanthropy or warewolves. The mention of missing livestock is almost confirming his suspicions at this point...
